The ACR rescueME PLB1 is a compact, GPS-enabled Personal Locator Beacon designed for hunters, trampers, boaters, and outdoor adventurers across New Zealand. Fully NZ coded and ready for registration, this waterproof emergency beacon transmits your precise location to international search and rescue satellites — with no subscription fees required.

When you're beyond mobile coverage, this is the device that brings you home.

What Is a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)?

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is a satellite emergency device that sends a 406 MHz distress signal to the international Cospas-Sarsat rescue system when activated. Once triggered, the PLB transmits your GPS location and unique ID to rescue coordination centres, allowing search and rescue teams to locate you — even in remote bush, offshore waters, or mountainous terrain.

Unlike satellite messengers, PLBs do not require ongoing subscription fees. They are designed purely for life-threatening emergencies.

Ultra Compact & Lightweight

Weighing just 116g, the PLB1 is one of the smallest Personal Locator Beacons available. Clip it to your belt, attach it to your pack, or mount it securely on your vessel.

Fast GPS Positioning

With 66 GPS channels, the PLB1 quickly locks onto your location and transmits accurate coordinates to search and rescue.

No Subscription Fees

Unlike satellite communicators, the rescueME PLB1 has no ongoing costs. Once purchased and registered, it’s ready when you need it.

7-Year Battery Life

Long-life battery (following recommended testing schedule) provides dependable protection for years.

Waterproof to 15 Metres

Built for harsh marine and outdoor environments — rain, river crossings, or offshore emergencies.

24+ Hour Operational Life

Once activated, it transmits for over 24 hours at -20°C, ensuring extended rescue window capability.

High-Visibility 1 Candela Strobe

Assists rescuers in visually locating you in low light conditions.

The rescueME PLB1 is ideal for:

  • Hunters operating in remote bush
  • Trampers & hikers on multi-day backcountry trips
  • Boaties & kayakers offshore
  • 4WD explorers
  • Farmers & remote workers
  • Mountain bikers & adventure riders
  • Anyone travelling beyond mobile reception

If your safety depends on being found quickly, this belongs in your pack.

Comes with belt band, float bag, and belt clip

What’s the difference between a PLB and an EPIRB?

A PLB is designed for personal use and portability, while an EPIRB is generally registered to a vessel.

How often should I test the beacon?

Follow manufacturer guidelines to preserve battery life. Regular self-testing is recommended but should not be excessive.
