We asked Firearms Safety Authority if these complied as secure ammunition storage to which they replied.

The transportation requirement for ammunition specifically says ‘d) Ammunition must be stored separately from any firearms and be in a locked glovebox or similar storage area where practicable’.

 If the bag is of robust construction, the padlock is not easily broken into and the ammunition stored in a separate part of the vehicle (i.e. one behind back seat and one in the rear) my interpretation is that it meets this requirement. I can see situations where a locked soft bag would be easier to conceal than a large square box in a vehicle.

So subject to the storage location in a vehicle these bags are compliant for ammunition storage when using the padlock.
